The K1 Rendezvous

On Sunday 11th Oct a rendezvous of K1s was organised by Dec (the Teck) O'Dwyer and Alyn Walsh in Gorey Co Wexford ... A total off 6 of this rare getting rarer machines were mustered together in the one County ... 5 initially ,when one of the faster, more desirable red and yellow ones had to leave to be replaced later by a blue one ..So nearly 6 K1's together !What are the chances ? So well done to Dec, Alyn, Ciarian ,Stephen and John for introducing the bikes to each other , some of them had not seen each other for twenty years or so, Some had come all the way from the US... If there is any one else out there with a K1 is interested in further rendezvous contact Alan at <alynwalsh@eircom.net> or Deck at <gsdecky@gmail.com>, Already there is talk of attending a international K1 treffen in Switzerland in May 2010 ...

Belgium 2009

Stephen Somers short report on his Run to Belgium on the  18th - 22nd June 2009

The Concept is to ride from Ireland to Belgium, touching 5 countries in a day.  We plan to stay here www.grd.be  .

Note.. turn on your sound when you click on the link for the bikers hotel

The ride will mostly be on motorway/ autoroute, as we will have a lot of kms to ride in a couple of days.  The rough idea at the moment is to meet up in Rosslare in time for the 08.00 fast ferry to Pembroke ( or Fishgaurd )... This should get us in at 10.00am, we will ride to Folkstone , catch the eurotunnel www.eurotunnel.com  , ride to the Loft Check out the Belgium beer and then tour the area

Report on return after escaping from Belgium

Escape to Belgium (the short version)

The group of five riders meet in Rosslare and ride to Oudenburg in Belgium .Kilo Three joins the formation on the M25 for a little while. We get to the hotel safely .

We visit a WW1 trench, have a nice lunch, replace a broken clutch cable on Kilo Two, visit the Irish peace tower, watch a rally car get it wrong, observe the last post ceremony at the Menin gate in Leper, visit a nice BMW workshop to stock up on clutch cables and reset the ABS on Kilo One,return to the hotel and enjoy some Belgium beer.

We follow a route to France given to us by the A/M mechanic .We are unimpressed by the route and stop for lunch...We have a interesting lunch ! We abandon the route and slab it back to a chocolate shop in Belgium spotted earlier. We think fondly of our loved ones back home and purchase chocolate's..We return to the hotel and join the other guests in a communal BBQ... We observe that some of the guests are very hungry.. Some of the guests may have observed that we are very thirsty.. We enjoy some Belgium beer.

We follow a road book supplied by the hotel toward Brugges..We decide that the road book is wrong and make our own way into the centre of the city..We park and spend the day explore Brugges on foot... Brugges is a pretty place and thanks to Colin Farrell the waiters had no problems understanding the Dubs in the group.. We visit the Half Moon Brewery and the guide observed that one of the group went down the steps the wrong way..We switch off the radio on Kilo four by disconnecting the battery and then enjoy some Belgium beer..

We get up early and ride to Rosslare except Romeo one who is heading to London for a few days ... We roll of the ferry at Rosslare and go our separate ways... Zumo tells me we covered 2276 kilometres...My bum agreed...The long version of this trip report can be had by buying Stephen,Declan,John,Tom or David a beer .The very long version can be had by making that beer a Trappist no 10.
