Section News – Irish Section – for March Journal

.....

I hope that we’ve seen the end of the winter wonderland and now we can look

forward to some decent bike weather, but be careful as some of the roads are

in a terrible state with craters for potholes.

Our new website is up and running (thanks to Daithi) it is now the place to visit

for up to the minute information for what’s happening within the section.  All our

events are on the front page in google maps so that with a click of the mouse and

zoom in you can see exactly where an event is taking place. The site can be reached

directly by typing www.bmwclub.ie into your browser.

As I write this (end of January) our Mini Thatch is fully booked so it should be a

great weekend. I hear that quite a few Leinster members attended Maddocks

evening for Haiti, Keary’s  in Cork have also had a ride out, again all benefits’ to Haiti.

I’m sure you will join me in extending our condolences to Anne McDonald on the

passing of her Father.

Finally what of our section hero’s foray to the "Elefant Treffen", Brendan Lang our

treasurer saw them off at Dublin Port and got some photos (see the "news" tab)

Lastly, I heard they were on course but with some mechanical calamities but nothing

that  would be beyond their resourcefulness and determination.

Section News – Irish Section – for February Journal

Hope you all had a great Christmas and a very happy New Year to you all for 2010.  First of all, I would like to apologise for the lack of Irish Section news in the January journal.  Hopefully we are now back on track and we will have some news for you for the rest of this year.

We have a packed Diary of Events, which you should all have received by now and our first big event will be The Mini Thatch which will be held in the newly re-furbished  "Old Deanery" holiday cottages, in Killala, Co Mayo on 27th February to 1st March.
Dinner will be on Saturday 28th in the "Village Inn" and the cost for the weekend will be €75.00 per person.  Enquiries to Dave Browne or myself

As you know Brendan Lang has agreed to be the Booking Secretary for the coming year and all bookings payments etc., to be sent directly to him.  Please send in your cheques/postal-orders/bank drafts payable to “BMW Club – Irish Section” to Mr B.T. Lang, 34 Woodview Park, Castleknock, Dublin 15. Tel: 086 2555214  btlang@hotmail.com.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mary Connolly for all her hard work doing the bookings up to now for the Club, it was much appreciated.

I hear from Anne McDonald that the annual Christmas lunch in Old Conna Golf Club was well attended again this year, with 33 members having Sunday lunch.  Unfortunately the Connolly family couldn’t make it this year, as Mary wasn’t very well and I am very glad to hear that she is now back to full health again.

Jim Sweeney had to cancel the annual January hill walk in the Wicklow mountains and lunch, as the leader who normally takes them out and organises the walk was away in New Zealand.

Eight members are travelling to the "Elefantenttreffen" the famous elephant rally held on 29 to 31 January on a mountain in Thormansbang-Solla Bavaria.  Three BMW sidecar outfits of various types and eight Irishmen calling themselves “The Fathers Sons Brothers and Others” run its going to be cold so let’s hope the electric gear works and the chilblains aren't too bad. Hopefully they will tell us all about it in a future issue, we wish them all the very best of Irish luck for a safe successful adventure.

Hopefully we will have a good Spring and it will be great to see members taking part in the various events that the committee has organised this year.
