Reivers Boreen

Notes and Guidance for Participants

The event will be run over the weekend of the 19th and 20th June 2010 and will start from Hexham (The Wentworth Car Park) Participants should meet at the western end of the car park. Riders should arrive with a full tank of fuel (2 filling stations nearby).

The ride will leave at 09.30 sharp so riders will need to assemble by 09.00 for briefing by the ride leaders.

The ride will be on the byways of Northumberland and Durham using, as far as possible, minor unclassified roads. Road surfaces will vary so riders should come prepared for the worst. You know that gravel is always on the bend! The ride is not an off-road event but it will be challenging and there may be a few easy offroad trails for those who wish. These are not compulsory. The ride is not suitable for novices and inexperienced riders. Daily mileage is in the region of 150 miles but may be adjusted depending on circumstances.

The cost of £150 includes dinner, bed and breakfast in shared accommodation on Saturday and Sunday nights as well as a.m. coffee and light lunches on both days.

While the organisers will help as far as possible they cannot accept responsibility for mechanical breakdown of any bikes. Riders will be responsible for their own machines and in the event of puncture or breakdown will need to have their own repair/rescue arrangements in place.

The Drop Off System will be used throughout the event. If you require an explanation of the system please contact Peter Cullen or look at the North East Section’s site. If necessary a further explanation of the system will be made at the briefing on the 20th and the leaders and back-markers identified. Safe overtaking of other riders is permitted. Riders are asked to keep strictly to the system. It works. After any stop the leader will signal recommencement of the ride.

Do ride comfortably at your own pace particularly on the more difficult sections and keep a reasonable distance between you and the person in front. Please be aware of other road users especially horse riders and animals.

Further information on contacts and locations will be given on the 19th. If you have any queries please contact:
