We are an active Section with a busy program of events which take place throughout the whole of the year. New members to the club often think that going on a two or three day trip is fraught with problems and so deny themselves of a great weekend out. The truth is, that if you make the effort to attend a trip, the rewards are generally well worth the effort.
Traveling in a group has many advantages, there is always someone on hand to help should an unforeseen event happen and with a few extra members about there will always be an 'club expert' around to help out. With modern puncture proofing fluids like "Ultraseal" the bikers nightmare of being stranded with a flat tyre, is in reality non-existant, so there really is no excuse to start touring.
A motorcycle is a great way to travel and getting kitted out for a road trip is not as difficult as it may at first seem. The obvious way to simplify things is opt for a event where a hotel or B&B is an option. Many members will only travel in this manner and the advantages are, less to carry and a nice dry room to rest in at the end of the day.
The other option is to camp and many members opt to do this in preference to the pleasures of a hotel. If you don't already own a tent and plan to purchase one to take on your bike, talk to other members first as you will find a wealth of knowledge gained over many years, and you may find it will save you money in the long run. When buying any equipment for "motorcycle camping" keep in mind that whatever you are thinking of buying, size is king and that if it is the smallest of its type then you are more likely to be able to find the space to carry it.
Please remember, that there is a wealth of experience in your local section, so dont be shy and feel free to ask member for their advice on any aspect of home or overseas motorcycle travel. |
