The Southern Section is both the oldest and youngest section of The BMW Club. The Club was originally founded in a pub in Guilford, Surrey and for a number of years, the headquarters was at Virginia Water, Surrey.
After the HQ moved to London and regional sections began to be formed, HQ became the London Section.
By 1983, there were 14 regional sections and members from around the Guildford area voted to break away from the London section to form the 15th, and final section, the Guildford Section.
The section was re-named The Southern Section in 1988, to better reflect the area from which it draws its membership (mainly Hampshire, East Dorset, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Surrey, West Sussex and the Isle Of Wight).
Membership currently stands at over 400.
The section meets regularly at four or five different locations around the region, and organises a variety of events throughout the year, including:
- Visits
- Rides-out
- Camping/Hotel/B&B weekends
- Foreign tours
- Activity days
- etc.
Many members also take part in National and International events.
