The Southern Section is both the oldest and youngest section of The BMW Club. The Club was originally founded in a pub in Guilford, Surrey and for a number of years, the headquarters was at Virginia Water, Surrey.
After the HQ moved to London and regional sections began to be formed, HQ became the London Section.
By 1983, there were 14 regional sections and members from around the Guildford area voted to break away from the London section to form the 15th, and final section, the Guildford Section, which 5 years later became the Southern Section.
