JUNE 2010

Only one run to report on for April, which was Glyn and Janet’s run to Thruxton. Maybe due to the AGM the previous day, Glyn had less people join him than in previous years. This did not seem to affect the enjoyment, as the weather was good and as there were fewer riders, the run was a bit faster than normal.

Referring back to the AGM, everyone who attended will know it was almost as interesting as last year. I expect there will be a mention of this elsewhere in the journal. I am happy to report that Rossana was awarded the Mary Dudgeon Trophy. This is given to the lady member, or wife of a member, for the work they have done to promote the Club and motorcycling.

Although there have not been many organised runs this month, we have had a very good turnout at The Saddlers in Send for the last few natter nights. It definitely seems to be the most popular of our venues. A couple of weeks ago we were pleased to welcome Andy, another new member, to our large, sometimes rather noisy, gatherings. Since the news went in for the last journal, we have again moved the natter night. The Sun at Rake was advertised, but now we meet at The Pheasant, next to Bahnstormer. (Edit: this has now moved back to The Flying Bull) Anyone who checks the website will know about this update. We also have a list of e mail addresses, so that we can update members who do not access the website. If you wish to be added to this list, please contact the social team. This way we can keep you updated with information much sooner than with the journal.

17 people went across the water for the weekend at the Chateau. There will be a full report in the next journal when I have been able to quiz the participants and get all the juicy gossip.

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the recent very summery weather. Let us hope the sun shines on us in June, as we have four runs organised. On 6th, Godfrey is taking us on a lunch run, meeting at Pease Pottage services on M23 at 09.30hrs (RH11 9YA). Phone Godfrey on ***** ****** for more details.

The next run on 13th is Alan’s Special Tour of Arundel Castle, departing from The Flying Bull at Rake (GU35 7JB) at 10.00hrs. (the pub is actually shut at the moment, but hopefully the sign is still there!) Alan has negotiated a special group rate entry fee of £10.00 per person (normal rate £16.00) which includes free parking for the bikes and a tour of the castle rooms which lasts about 90 minutes. The price also includes a full access ticket allowing visits to the grounds, Fitzalan Chapel, medieval keep and the castle bedrooms. We will have our own guide who will greet us on arrival, oversee the needs of the group during the day and act as security for our bikes. There is a restaurant on site for lunch, or bring your own picnic. This run sounds really interesting and not to be missed. Please can you have your entry fee in cash easily available on arrival to make Alan’s job a little bit easier. If you need any more information you can contact Alan and Carol on ***** ******

Terry is taking us to Dover Castle on 20th ,starting with breakfast at Wesson’s Café, High Street, Horam, East Sussex (TN21 0ER) If you decide not to partake of food, the run will be leaving Wesson’s at 10.30hrs. Terry can be contacted on ***** ******. The last of our runs is an evening visit to Long John’s in Poole for fish and chips. The starting point is the Little Chef (BH24 3HN). For more details, ring Richard on ***** ******.

In July, we have our camping weekend in Dorset, including Sunday lunch at True Lover’s Knot. Richard has provisionally booked some camping pitches at Church Farm Caravan and Camping Park, www.churchfarmandcpark.co.uk for 2 nights 16th- and 17th. Ideally, he should have your booking by the end of June, as he has to confirm numbers to the camp site. He also needs numbers for the Sunday lunch on the 18th. A lot of members have asked for more camping events, so please show your support and contact Richard and book for this weekend. The cost of the camping is £7.50 per unit per night. If you do not want to camp, you can just book for the Sunday lunch. We organised a Sunday lunch here for the first time last year and it was a great success. Richard’s number as above.

Chris Tite is organising two events in July, as listed in the calendar of events. Please ring Chris for further details, or contact your social team.

With all these events, there is no excuse for you to stay at home. So we look forward to meeting lots of our fellow members in the coming months.

Pictures from the recent Blacksmith's Day Visit with Dave Wright
Dave Wright kindly opened his forge to give Southern Section members a 'taster' of a day in the life of a blacksmith! Great fun was had by all those who had the strength to wield a blacksmith's hammer and wanted to toast themselves next to the forge!
