South West Section Technical Bulletins

The South West Section produces a range of K and R series technical bulletins by Mike Fishwick, some of which may be of interest to you. They are in A4 format, with illustrations where necessary. All of the publications have been written with the benefit of practical experience. £ 2;50 each

(1) Tyre fitting – A system that really works, with very little effort, including tubeless tyres. Ian Little cut his tyre removal time from 8 hours to 20 minutes in one go after reading this! I can usually have the inner tube out in about 3 minutes
(2) Boxer Servicing – Description of the servicing requirements of the Teutonic Twin with many of the items tackled on a time basis, and some of the requirements not usually thought of until it is too late.
(3) Bing CV Carburettors – All about three very clever instruments, which are more sophisticated than people think! Illustrated descriptions of how they operate, how to strip them, maintenance requirements and adjustment procedures. I used to think that I knew everything about these until I started to write this booklet, and found that even BMW service school notes contain glaring errors.
(4) Boxer Clutches – The original 1969 to 1980 and post 1981 type of clutches described, with maintenance, repair and adjustment requirements.
(5) Boxer Timing Chains – Description of both the 1969 to 1979 and post 1980 types of chain, and their associated problems. Procedure s for replacement, modification to the tensioner, and special tools.
(6) Dual Plug Ignition – The problems of obtaining good combustion in a Boxer, why it is like it is, and what we can do about it. Theoretical and practical aspects of dual plugging, machining the heads and potential problems, setting up the engine, fuel additives (one which really works) later model air filters etc.
(7) Boxer Five Speed Gearbox – The five speed gearbox – its component parts, how it operates, problems, modifications, how to dismantle and reassemble it. Special tools , reshimming etc.
(8) Bosch LE-Jetronic – Fuel injection system for K100 and K75 Models.

The BMW Club Tool Hire Scheme (Post /5 Models)

.

Mike Delacoe administers the Post /5 Tool Hire and can be contacted as follows:

.

Phone - 01327 360945 (answer phone)

Email - toolhire@bmwclub.org.uk

.

The Club holds over 200 special BMW tools covering models ranging from early Boxers, K series, Oil head boxers, and F650s. With a variety of BMW and Clymer manuals for reference, a simple phone call or email is usually all it takes to identify the correct tool for the job, and its availability. An appropriate deposit will also be advised. What next? 1. Send the deposit cheque (made out to the BMW Club), to Mike at his home address as per the club Journal. 2. On receipt, the tools will be sent via parcel post (and depending on tool value - with enhanced compensation). This usually takes up to 4 working days, but if required, 24/48 hour delivery can be arranged, but is more expensive. 3. When you have finished, return the tools via the same method. Note this doesn ' t need to be ' Next Day ' as it will be much more expensive. 4. On safe return I will send a Club refund cheque less outgoing postage and hire charge. 5. By prior arrangement callers may pick up or return tools in person. The hire charge will be a nominal £ 5.
